Zeiss

For over a century, Zeiss Sport Optics has stood for outstanding quality and innovation in the world of long-range optics. As part of Carl Zeiss AG, founded in Jena in 1846 by Carl Zeiss, the company has secured a firm place in the history of optics. Originally, Zeiss specialized in the production of microscopes and optical instruments, but over time its expertise expanded to include sports optics, which are now valued worldwide for their precision and reliability. The Zeiss Sport Optics division, headquartered in Wetzlar, was formed from the acquisition of Hensoldt AG in 1928, another long-established German optics company that had been manufacturing optical instruments since 1847. This merger united two pioneers of the industry and laid the foundation for Zeiss's current position as a leading manufacturer of binoculars, spotting scopes, thermal imaging devices, and accessories.

The history of Zeiss is characterized by groundbreaking developments. As early as the 1930s, Zeiss revolutionized optics with the introduction of the T* multi-layer coating, which minimizes light loss and significantly improves image quality – a technology still used in modern binoculars and spotting scopes today. During the 20th century, Zeiss expanded its portfolio and established itself as an indispensable partner for hunters, nature observers, and outdoor enthusiasts. Zeiss is particularly distinguished in sports optics by its combination of traditional craftsmanship and state-of-the-art technology. For example, in 1990, the company introduced the 20 × 60 S, the first binoculars with mechanical image stabilization, setting new standards in long-range optics.

Today, Zeiss sports optics offers a wide range of products, from compact binoculars in the Conquest and Victory series to high-performance spotting scopes like the Victory Harpia and innovative thermal imaging devices such as the DTI series. The binoculars are known for their brilliant image sharpness, high light transmission, and robust construction, while the spotting scopes impress with their remarkable magnifications and wide fields of view – ideal for birdwatching or hunting. Thermal imaging technology, one of Zeiss's latest innovations, enables precise observations even in darkness or poor visibility conditions and underscores the company's innovative spirit. The product range is complemented by a comprehensive selection of accessories, including tripods, adapters, and protective cases, all tailored to user needs.

For us at Optik Foto Rutz, Zeiss Sport Optics embodies a perfect symbiosis of tradition and progress. The in-house development of many technologies, such as FL lenses (fluoride-containing lenses for apochromatic correction) and the Advanced Optics System (AOS), demonstrates that Zeiss is always one step ahead. This innovative strength, combined with the robustness and ergonomics of the products, makes Zeiss the preferred choice for professionals and hobbyists alike. Whether observing nature at dusk, engaging in demanding hunting in the field, or detailed birdwatching – Zeiss Sport Optics delivers uncompromising performance and an unparalleled viewing experience.
